Excuse the soapbox, but…
Really? Only ten percent of our brains?
Well, these days we know better.
Years ago, we all learned that we only used ten percent of our brains.
The reason? Well, ynow, for levitation and superhuman strength and flying and translating yourself from place to place and telepathy and x-ray vision and and and the scientific wish list goes on.
Another source of this myth comes from the psychic community:
One reason this myth has endured is that it has been adopted by psychics and other paranormal pushers to explain psychic powersIf scientists dont know what we do with the other ninety percent, it must be used for psychic powers! Snopes.com
So for the scientist, it’s because God made a mistake. He gave us too much brain.
For the psychic, we must free our mind from God to experience the full potential of our brain!
But what about the body of Christ? What do they say?
Welllllll, the theologists say, it’s because of sin that we can’t use all our brain.
Hmmm. If this theory is true, then why not our fingers? Why can we use all of our fingers? Heck, we have ten of them and only one brain you’d think God gave us some extras.
And don’t get me started on hair Some of us have waaaayyy too much!
Mono-brows, nose hair, ear hair, back hair, hair on hair… it seems like hair is everywhere except where you want it most!
Yeah, you may be laughing now, just wait until you pass 35 and yes, it can happen to women too, so stop your snickering ladies.
But I digress.
Let’s go back and think about this for a moment, using the tiny part of our brain that controls common sense.
If the Word says that we are wonderfully made, then let’s believe that! I am wonderfully made! God did not make a mistake when he created me!
Psalm 139:13-15 (New King James Version)13 For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb.14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.15 My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
So when you hear someone say, “Well, y’know, we only use ten percent of our brain,” take that person aside and let them know that God designed you to use all of your brain to love Him!
Your answer to the argument that sin has decreased the usage of our brains and therefore we aren’t able to do all the things that God designed our bodies to do, remind them of one thing. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us! It’s not we can do all things through the other 90% of our brain. Jesus performed miracles, not through superior brain power, but rather, with His unwavering faith in His Father just as we can.
It’s not about brain power. It’s about faith power!
