Bouquet of words….

My Love Doesn’t know about this blog yet.

I have been working on a concept for this for a while, trying to find time to do this when she’s not around, and I am going to send the link to her right around our anniversary date coming up in June.

I used to send her flowers once a month.

When I would go out to sea on deployment (USS Phoenix SSN-702)… I used to set up a schedule for flowers to be sent so that she always knew that she was #1 in my life – even when I was out of pocket.

USS PHOENIX SSN-702

Lately, the fact that we now have two kidlets that go to daycare and a private school, other priorities take precedence, and well, my flower budget has withered to nothing.

I hate it.
Flowers were a way for me to give her a tangible representation of my love for her.
How could I reproduce this?
I felt discouraged.
But then an I got an idea that sort of went like this in my head…

Me: (reading email)
Crap.
Another email reminder from 1-800-Flowers to send my wife a bouquet.
Can’t do it.
Self: HELLO?  Aren’t you a writer?
Me: Yeah.
Self: Then quit your pity party and start sending her bouquets of words.
You always write great cards and sayings in the little notes that come with the flowers.
Think of the time and love you put into those words…
Wouldn’t that really be the same as sending her a bunch of flowers that someone else grew. cut, arranged, and delivered in your name?
Me: Self, you’re a genius!  Why didn’t I think of that?

Self: Don’t worry, I got your back….

So now, what you are reading is the result of that moment.
I’m so excited and nervous to see her reaction when she reads all of this.

I’ll let you know how it goes.
